Xiaomi Auto Launches SKYNOMAD SUV Series: Is the Range-Extended SUV Market About to Change?
On September 7, Xiaomi Auto officially launched its SKYNOMAD SUV series, with prices starting from RMB 209,900. Just like Xiaomi Auto’s previous pure electric launches, the new SKYNOMAD SUVs immediately attracted massive attention. Within only four minutes of launch, confirmed orders had already exceeded 10,000 units.
Looking at the officially announced prices, the N70 Pro is priced at RMB 209,900, the N70 Max at RMB 239,900, the N90 Max at RMB 269,900, and the N90 Max Explorer Edition at RMB 299,900.
It is understood that Xiaomi may also introduce a standard version in the future, potentially priced below RMB 200,000.
For comparison, the Li Auto L6, one of the main competitors in the same segment as the Xiaomi SKYNOMAD N70, currently starts at RMB 249,800. This means the N70 Pro is nearly RMB 40,000 cheaper, while even the N70 Max is still priced below the Li Auto L6.
Xiaomi Auto is not only being aggressive with pricing. As usual, the equipment level is also highly competitive.
For example, the N70 Max comes with:
- Dual LiDAR sensors
- NVIDIA Thor intelligent driving chip with 700 TOPS computing power
- Air suspension with CDC damping
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 cockpit chip
- 505 km CLTC pure electric range
This combination is already highly competitive among vehicles in the same price range.
In addition, Xiaomi’s launch benefits include features such as rotating seats, zero-gravity seats, HUD, and an in-car refrigerator, further strengthening the overall product package and putting considerable pressure on competing range-extended SUVs.
Comfort and flexible interior space are also major selling points of the Xiaomi SKYNOMAD lineup.
The N70 Max adopts a 2+3 five-seat layout. Once the rear seats are folded down, the cabin can be transformed into a large sleeping area.
The N90 Max, meanwhile, uses an independent aviation-style 2+2+3 three-row seating layout. The front seats can rotate 180 degrees, while the two independent second-row aviation seats are mounted on extra-long shared sliding rails with a travel distance of up to 900 mm.
One particularly noteworthy version is the N90 Explorer Edition, which features an integrated electrically operated pop-up roof.
Once raised, the upper section creates a loft-style second-level space, with a maximum interior height of 2,294 mm.
The seats can also be folded flat to form a bed, while the cabin includes features such as a soft-light mirror and bedside lamps. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with factory-installed wood-grain aluminum flooring and underfloor heating.
Compared with the familiar formula of “refrigerator, TV, and large sofa,” the N90 Explorer Edition effectively upgrades the vehicle into something closer to a mobile room, further meeting the needs of different types of users.
In terms of power, the single-motor version of the N70 delivers a maximum output of 210 kW.
The dual-motor version provides:
- Rear motor: 210 kW
- Front motor: 100 kW
For the battery, the N70 is available with 52 kWh and 76 kWh battery packs, corresponding to CLTC pure electric ranges of 351 km and 505 km, respectively.
The N90 Max is equipped with a large 76 kWh battery, providing a 464 km CLTC pure electric range and a 1,705 km CLTC combined range with a full battery and full tank of fuel.
However, competition in today’s range-extended SUV market is far more intense than when the Xiaomi SU7 first entered the market.
Brands such as Li Auto and AITO have already established strong consumer recognition. From the product itself, the SKYNOMAD SUV series, as Xiaomi Auto’s first range-extended lineup, is not perfect.
Whether it can truly establish a strong position in the range-extended SUV market through high cost-performance and flexible interior space will still require time to prove.
