Top 15 Best-Selling New Energy Vehicles in China for 2024
If you’re considering buying a Chinese new energy vehicle but don’t know which model to choose, take a look at the 2024 sales rankings. These sales figures are based on actual consumer purchases, not reviews or evaluations by automotive critics or media outlets. We selected sales data from the past six months, which largely reflects recent consumer preferences and market trends.
The top five best-selling models are Seagull, Model Y, QinL DM, Seal 06, and Yuan Plus. The Seagull takes the top spot with 272,000 units sold. Its popularity is not only due to being BYD’s most affordable pure EV but also thanks to the introduction of national subsidies. Model Y, a consistent leader in the past, has been surpassed by the Seagull and now ranks second. Nevertheless, Model Y remains the best-selling model in the 200,000+ CNY price segment.
The QinL DM, launched at the end of May, has achieved nearly 200,000 units sold in just five months—a remarkable accomplishment. Seal 06, a sibling model to the QinL DM, has a noticeable sales gap despite having similar pricing and configurations, possibly due to differences in design appeal or retail strategies. The Li Auto L6, ranked seventh, is the only mid-to-large-sized car in the top ten and the only extended-range model.
BYD’s Qin PLUS DM continues to perform strongly despite competition from the QinL DM. BYD’s former sales champion, the Song PLUS DM, has experienced a slight decline in sales. Meanwhile, the Destroyer 05, a sibling to the Qin PLUS DM, sells about 5,000 units less per month on average.
The previously popular Model 3 has seen a slight dip in rankings over the past six months. The Xiaomi SU7, launched in late March, had its sales impacted by initial production constraints. However, as of December, its total annual deliveries have reached 130,000 units. Finally, the AITO M9, ranked 14th, is the only large SUV in the list and has achieved commendable sales figures.
