Zeekr 9X / Voyah Taishan / Dreamme SUV : “The Chinese Cullinan” — An Intense Luxury SUV Battle Ahead!

The Chinese automotive market has once again entered a golden season of excitement this October. While some brands are still benchmarking themselves against the traditional BBA trio (BMW, Benz, Audi), a few domestic names have already set their sights on surpassing those giants. As Chinese carmakers continue to climb the value ladder, the standards of consumer choice are clearly rising as well.

On September 29, Zeekr officially launched its all-new flagship SUV — the Zeekr 9X, affectionately dubbed the “Hangzhou Cullinan.” Just a week before that, the Voyah Taishan, nicknamed the “Wuhan Cullinan,” made its debut, targeting the premium luxury SUV segment. Meanwhile, the Dreamme SUV, the brand’s first-ever model, released official images positioning it as an ultra-luxury flagship — a pixel-perfect rival to Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Let’s take a closer look at these dazzling contenders in China’s “Cullinan” lineup.

🚘 Zeekr 9X: The Pinnacle of Chinese Performance Luxury

The Zeekr 9X doesn’t just carry the luxury vibe of a Cullinan — it redefines what “premium” means for a Chinese brand. Its exterior design exudes power and sophistication, featuring a bold front grille filled with vertical chrome slats, delivering an unmistakable sense of grandeur.

From the side, sleek and extended lines shape a stately silhouette. A blacked-out A-pillar creates a floating roof illusion, while the D-pillar features chrome accents with a ZEEKR embossed logo, emphasizing exclusivity. The mechanical door handles blend perfectly with the squared-off body, offering a touch of mechanical elegance, and the massive mirror-polished wheels complete its regal look.

In terms of size, the Zeekr 9X measures 5239/2029/1819 mm (L/W/H) with a 3169 mm wheelbase — placing it firmly in the large SUV category. A special “Obsidian Black Edition” will also be available, featuring all-black design elements including wheels and grille trims, catering to those who prefer a stealthy, high-end aesthetic.

Under the hood, the 9X adopts a 900V high-voltage hybrid system, pairing a 2.0T engine with dual electric motors. The combined system output reaches a staggering 1030 kW, allowing 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 3.1 seconds. It offers 55 kWh and 70 kWh 6C hybrid-dedicated batteries, with CLTC pure-electric ranges of 288 km and 380 km respectively — all wrapped in cutting-edge hybrid tech.

🚀 Voyah Taishan: A Tech-Luxury Flagship with Huawei Power

The Voyah Taishan takes Dongfeng Group’s latest advancements and pushes them even further with Huawei’s intelligent systems. Equipped with HUAWEI ADS 4 and the HarmonySpace 5 smart cockpit, this SUV confidently claims the title of “next-generation flagship.”

Its design is equally striking — a waterfall-style chrome grille with an illuminated logo and full-width light bar delivers both luxury and futuristic vibes. The split headlamp design, blacked-out lower grilles, and aerodynamic vents enhance its aggressive yet composed presence.

The side profile maintains the boxy, upright luxury SUV stance, defined by a strong waistline and distinctive “Starlight” half-hidden door handles. The two-tone body, along with chrome wheels and accents, oozes opulence. Measuring 5230/2025/1817 mm with a 3120 mm wheelbase, the Taishan is every bit as imposing as it looks.

Powering the SUV is a plug-in hybrid AWD setup with a 1.5T engine + dual electric motors, delivering a system maximum power of 110 kW. It carries a 63 kWh battery, offering 370 km CLTC electric range and a combined range of 1400 km. Supporting 800V high-voltage architecture and 5C ultra-fast charging, it also debuts an advanced triple-chamber air suspension with EDC magic carpet system and 16° independent rear-wheel steering — rivaling or even surpassing European luxury SUVs in sophistication.

🏁 Dreamme SUV: The Bold New Challenger

Dreamme’s first-ever SUV is an extended-range luxury SUV, and though still in prototype form, it’s already making waves. Its front fascia looks nearly identical to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, featuring a massive “Parthenon temple” vertical grille that’s even more exaggerated and eye-catching. The horizontal headlamp layout, air channels, and robust body design project sheer dominance.

The side view continues this theme — boxy, elongated, and unmistakably grand. Chrome accents, thick D-pillars, and oversized shiny wheels reflect the Chinese perception of ultimate luxury. Perhaps its most jaw-dropping feature is the suicide door configuration with no B-pillar — though it remains uncertain if this will make it to mass production.

🌏 A New Wave of Chinese Ultra-Luxury SUVs

The emergence of these “Chinese Cullinans” comes at a pivotal moment. Over the past year, the share of high-end Chinese SUVs has surged dramatically, with brands like Li Auto, AITO, and Yangwang proving that domestic luxury models can succeed both technologically and commercially.

What’s notable is that these vehicles are not “expensive for the sake of being expensive.” They are authentically premium, offering powerful specs, refined craftsmanship, and cutting-edge tech — redefining what luxury means in the EV and hybrid era.

So, if you had the budget for a flagship SUV, would you consider one of these Chinese luxury titans like the Zeekr 9X or Voyah Taishan — or would you still lean toward the traditional names like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or Rolls-Royce?
