New Cars: Prices Bring Pleasant Surprises! The BYD Han L and Tang L Are Launched Simultaneously

On April 9, two highly anticipated models under the BYD Dynasty brand—the Han L and Tang L—were launched. Both models are offered with two powertrains: EV and DM. As previously announced, the entire Han L and Tang L range comes standard with the “God’s Eye B” (DiPilot 300) high-end intelligent driving laser version. The DM variants employ BYD’s fifth-generation hybrid technology, while the EV variants are built on the Super e-platform. Since the previously disclosed details need not be repeated here, this article focuses on introducing the highlight features of the two models.

Han L Tang L-1

Super e-Platform: Over 30,000 RPM Motor

BYD has developed a 30,511-RPM motor with a power density of 16.4 kW/kg and a maximum power output of 580 kW (789 horsepower). This motor is paired with a 230 kW (313 horsepower) motor to form an all-wheel-drive system, enabling the Han L EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and the Tang L EV in 3.9 seconds. With over a thousand horsepower and sub3second acceleration levels, these figures are staggering—a true revolution for family vehicles.

Regarding powertrain specifics, both the Han L EV and Tang L EV will offer a 500 kW single-motor option, as well as an all-wheel-drive variant featuring dual motors with a 230 kW front motor and a 580 kW rear motor.

The plug-in hybrid versions will be equipped with DM-p technology. They feature a brand-new 1.5T engine with a maximum power output of 115 kW. The Han L DM-p pairs this with a single motor reaching 200 kW, and offers two pure electric range options of 145 km and 170 km. For the Tang L DM-p, both the front and rear motors deliver a maximum of 200 kW, with pure electric ranges of 135 km, 150 km, and 165 km available.

Comprehensively Upgraded “E3” System

Complementing the high-RPM motor is a new E3 system. On the battery front, it adopts high-charge-rate blade batteries capable of reaching a maximum charging voltage of 1000 V, a maximum charging current of 1000 A, and a charging power of 1000 kW. With the support of a 1000 V architecture, the maximum charging rate can hit 10C.

A new generation of silicon carbide power chips gives the electric control system a compact size, light weight, high-temperature resistance (over 200°C), excellent stability, and high efficiency—thereby achieving the performance of a dual-motor system with the energy consumption of a single-motor setup. Additionally, these chips boast a voltage rating of up to 1500 V and integrate an intelligent boost module. Coupled with dual-gun charging technology, the new cars can achieve 500 kW charging power even on shared charging stations.

On the energy replenishment front, BYD has officially introduced an all-liquid-cooled megawatt flash charging system. With a maximum charging power of 1360 kW, the system can add 2 km of range per second (for the Han L EV) or 1.6 km per second (for the Tang L EV), and achieve a 5minute charge that delivers 400 km (Han L EV) or 370 km (Tang L EV) of range—making charging times comparable to refueling. Moreover, each charging station occupies only 1.5 square meters, with plans to install over 4000 flash charging stations worldwide.

Equipped with DiPilot 300 and the Lingyuan Drone

In the area of intelligent driving, both new models will come standard with the DiPilot 300 system ( “God’s Eye B” ), which comprises one LiDAR, five millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and multiple cameras. This configuration enables functions such as urban navigation and high-speed automated driving. Additionally, the Tang L will offer a version featuring the Lingyuan Drone, equipped with a custom DJI Air 3S onboard drone and a dual-purpose remote control. This setup supports dynamic takeoff and landing, intelligent follow-flight, and one-touch return-to-base operations. The in-car system will also include the Lingyuan App, which comes with 30 editing templates and supports one-click video creation, secondary editing, and easy sharing to mainstream social media platforms.

A Brief Analysis of the BYD Han L & Tang L Exterior and Interior

Within the BYD Dynasty lineup, the Tang and Han represent the core SUV and sedan models, respectively. Given the current pace of market competition, the new Han L and Tang L are expected to become the new flagships of the Dynasty range.

In terms of dimensions, the BYD Han L measures 5050 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. Although both the overall length and the wheelbase have been extended, the increase is modest.

The BYD Tang L measures 5040 mm in length, 1996 mm in width, and 1760 mm in height—with the drone-carrying version featuring a height of 1970 mm—and a wheelbase of 2950 mm. The 7seater version available has significantly larger overall dimensions than the Tang DM.

Han L Tang L-4

Inside, both the Han L and Tang L share a similar minimalistic design language. The center console features more sharply defined surfaces, utilizing a combination of an LCD screen with a square central display while retaining some physical quick-access buttons.

Both new models will be equipped with the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit, which supports a full-scenario smart voice AI large model, multi-scenario modes, 5G connectivity, and the fully enhanced Deepseek version, among other features.

The Han L’s front seats come with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while the rear seats feature a “boss button” and touch panels. Additionally, the interior is equipped with a cooling and heating refrigerator, an ambient fragrance system, wireless charging for front-seat smartphones, and Dynaudio speakers.

The Tang L features a floating central display, an LCD instrument cluster, and an AR-HUD head-up display. It also offers front-seat wireless phone charging, high-quality audio, an onboard cooling and heating refrigerator, and an ambient fragrance system. The interior adopts a 2+3+2 layout for the 7seater version, with the first two rows offering heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Han L Tang L-6

In Conclusion

The Han L and Tang L represent the culmination of all current BYD brand technologies. Not only do they offer fifth-generation hybrid technology and the Super e-platform, but their intelligent driving systems, in-car platforms, and configurations are also fully loaded. This robust package gives them ample confidence against any competitors in their class. Now, following the launch of the Han L and Tang L, whether they can lead the Chinese mid-to-large new energy vehicle market remains to be seen.
