New Year's "No.1" New Car: Why the Launch of the XPeng X9 Will Change Your Perception of MPV?
On the first day of the New Year in 2024, XPeng Motors strategically chose this day to officially launch its first MPV model, the X9, and deliveries began later in the month. The X9 marks XPeng’s debut in the MPV segment and holds unique significance for both the XPeng brand and the domestic new energy MPV market.
In terms of exterior design, the X9 differs significantly from our traditional understanding of MPVs, leaning toward a simple and technological design style. While featuring distinct lines and edges, the overall design exudes a strong sense of streamlined aesthetics. The continuous LED light strip is part of XPeng’s familial design language, and the overall styling is geared towards a youthful look.
What catches the eye most on the side profile of the X9 is the sleek and sloping design—a feature rarely seen in MPV models. The new car is equipped with concealed door handles and electric sliding doors, with a high-mounted brake light and continuous taillights at the rear. Thanks to this unique design and 17 areas of low aerodynamic resistance, the X9 achieves an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.227Cd, placing it at the forefront among MPVs.
In terms of dimensions, the X9 measures 5293/1988/1785 millimeters in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3160 millimeters.
Inside, the X9’s interior design is simple and cozy, making it suitable for family use. All models come with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 17.3-inch floating central control screen, and a 21.4-inch rear LCD display. The X9 is equipped with the most advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 in-car chip, a standard feature across all models. Additionally, features such as L2-level assisted driving, memory and remote parking, remote summoning, 50W wireless phone charging, in-car refrigerator, multi-layer soundproof glass for front and rear, rear sunshades, rear-wheel active steering, and dual-chamber air suspension are all standard across the X9 lineup.
In terms of power, the X9 offers front single-motor and dual-motor four-wheel-drive models, with three-cobalt lithium batteries featured in all but the entry-level variant. The two-wheel-drive model achieves a pure electric range of up to 702 kilometers and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds. The dual-motor four-wheel-drive model has a pure electric range of 640 kilometers, a maximum power of 370 kW, a maximum torque of 640 Nm, and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds.
Looking at the overall configuration of the X9, its performance stands out prominently. As a product that emphasizes differentiated competition, the X9 from XPeng may very well prompt more Chinese families to choose an MPV. Let’s look forward to the market performance of the XPeng X9!
