BYD Sea Lion 08 the Latest Flagship SUV of the Ocean Network Officially Launched
On September 2, the BYD Sea Lion 08 was officially launched. Positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, the new model is available with both pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The Sea Lion 08 adopts BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language. Two prominent character lines on the hood enhance its sense of strength. The daytime running lights use a full-width design and connect with split high- and low-beam headlight units on both sides, creating a highly recognizable lighting signature.
The vehicle measures 5,115 × 1,999 × 1,800 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. Inside, it features a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, pearlescent decorative materials, and 100% soft-touch covering in frequently contacted areas. Both five-seat and six-seat layouts are available. The powered front trunk has a capacity of 201 liters, while the rear luggage compartment offers 943 liters of space.
The cabin provides 53 flexible storage spaces, including a three-layer privacy storage area, driver’s glasses compartment, front passenger glovebox, center armrest storage, portable hooks, dedicated umbrella compartment, 7.3-liter intelligent in-car refrigerator, second-row phone storage slots, and third-row storage compartments.
According to information previously released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new model is available with both pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Pure Electric Version
The single-motor version is offered with:
- Low-power version: 320 kW
- High-power version: 370 kW
The dual-motor version delivers peak outputs of:
- Front motor: 215 kW
- Rear motor: 370 kW

The new vehicle is equipped with DiSus-A closed dual-chamber air suspension with road-preview capability. Rear-wheel steering helps reduce the turning radius to just 4.95 meters.
It also supports a wide range of intelligent parking functions, including:
- Full-scenario parking assistance
- Automatic parking
- Remote parking after exiting the vehicle
- Smartphone remote-controlled parking
The Sea Lion 08 is equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology.
The pure electric version offers a maximum CLTC range of 900 km, while the plug-in hybrid version provides up to 400 km of CLTC pure electric range and a combined CLTC range of 1,650 km. Fuel consumption with a depleted battery is rated at 4.6 L/100 km under NEDC conditions.
The new model is also equipped with the God’s Eye 5.0 intelligent driving assistance system. Its body structure adopts a nine-longitudinal and thirteen-transverse cage design, and the vehicle comes standard with 11 airbags.
In terms of driving safety, the Sea Lion 08 is designed to remain stable and come to a controlled stop even in extreme situations such as a high-speed tire blowout on a wet straight road at 160 km/h, or a tire blowout while cornering on a wet road at 140 km/h.
