Is the Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition Worth Buying as the Perfect Blend of Technology and Driving?

As a high-end new energy brand under Changan Group, the Avatr 12 has captured the attention of numerous consumers. Positioned as a coupe-style sedan, this model has won over many electric vehicle users with its powerful performance and advanced technological features. Recently, the Avatr 12 extended-range and pure electric facelift models were officially launched, with two new extended-range models and one high-end pure electric version, priced between $38,600 and $61,500.

The Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition is equipped with an extended-range generator rated at 115 kW and achieving a thermal efficiency of 44.39%, a peak power output of 100 kW, and a continuous power output of 70 kW, delivering a combined range of up to 1,155 km and an all-electric range of 245 km (CLTC conditions). The pure electric version includes a new “master” edition with upgraded features and a new motor, offering two CLTC pure electric ranges of 755 km and 705 km.

The Extended Range Edition maintains the exterior profile of the existing pure electric model, featuring a four-door liftback design and a “no-rear-window” style. The front lower section includes a blacked-out grille with C-shaped daytime running lights on both sides for added distinctiveness. Like the pure electric version, the Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition is equipped with three lidar sensors, supporting Huawei’s QianKun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system.

The interior is minimalist and tech-focused, equipped with electronic exterior mirrors, a long instrument panel screen, a 15.6-inch floating central control screen, and the HarmonyOS operating system. Behind the steering wheel is a 35.4-inch 4K ultra-wide screen stretching across both the driver and front passenger areas, displaying startup animations, a basic instrument cluster, ADAS scenario reconstruction, and map information, while supporting customizable card editing and linking with relaxation modes and charging scenarios.

The interior of the Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition features a dusk purple and smoky white color scheme, with an oval multifunction steering wheel, electronic shifter, dual 50W wireless phone chargers, 64-color ambient lighting, digital rearview mirror, and dual neutral body posture seats, maintaining consistency with the pure electric version.

Additional differences in configuration include a rear-seat central armrest with a control screen and cup holders in the Extended Range Edition, displaying controls for seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The vehicle also includes Bowers & Wilkins audio, a rear roof-mounted entertainment screen, and a physical car key for added comfort.

The pure electric version’s motor has been upgraded; the single rear-drive motor version now delivers 237 kW, with a CLTC range of 755 km, while the all-wheel drive version has a combined output of 402 kW and a CLTC range of 705 km. The Avatr 12’s main competitors are the Zeekr, HIMA, and IM L7, among other mid-to-large models. Its three lidar sensors give it an advantage in intelligent driving assist hardware, and the introduction of an extended-range version offers consumers more options.

Overall, the Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition is still a relatively strong choice for young consumers seeking a combination of advanced technology and driving pleasure. With its impressive performance in tech features, power, and space, as well as abundant safety and high-comfort seat designs, this vehicle holds considerable market competitiveness. It is expected that, over time, the Avatr 12 Extended Range Edition will continue to perform well in terms of sales.
